And the Doctor says....
PERFECT!
I went this morning for my first physical since losing the weight. I had gone in ahead of time for lab work so that he would have all my blood work and results so we could go over it all.
Here is a run down of what he found:
Cholesterol - Ideal = <175 Mine = 163
Triglycerides - Ideal = <100 Mine = 69
LDL (bad cholesterol)- Ideal = <100 Mine = 75
Cholesterol/HDL ratio - Ideal = 1.0-5.0 Mine = 2.2
HDL (good cholesterol) - Ideal = 50< Mine = 74!
One thing he also told me is that having a high HDL like that can only come from a good diet and exercise! I do both!
I also asked about my current maintenance calorie level. He said that actually by eating at a level like I am of now on average 1400 calories a day... I am actually INCREASING my life span! Studies are now showing that actually someone maintaining a REDUCED calorie diet/maintenance program are INCREASING their chances for a longer life!
I think it can be agreed that eating the way I did on my loss program is not how I will be eating the rest of my life. Neither is drinking shakes twice a day or pre-packaged meals. No one will continue their WEIGHT LOSS way of eating their entire lives. What I do think though is that Kimkins taught me the fundamentals of good eating. I can eat and maintain a healthy Low Fat Low Carb lifestyle for my whole life! Kimkins prepared me for a future of good eating habits. I eat my protein now lean and properly proportioned. I can listen to my body and know when I've eaten enough. I can spread my calories throughout the day so that I never feel deprived or like I have to binge.
So without further fanfare - I give you another day in my life!
Today was a bit of a rush day with my doctor's appointment this morning. So I opted for a very light breakfast before I left and then another decent sized snack when I returned. I'd also like to note here that I have not included all that I drink in a day because well.... it would take too long! On average I drink around 60-80 oz of water (regular or flavored) in a day plus diet sodas or Crystal Light as an alternative. Not to mention my morning coffee ;)
Breakfast - Almond Breeze Milk Shake w/ Whey Protein
Morning Snack - Cottage Cheese and Strawberries w/ Almonds
Lunch - Peanut Curry Chicken, soy chips and Summer Salad (lettuce, strawberries, almonds, Low Fat Feta Cheese, and Pomegranate Hibiscus Dressing)
Afternoon snack - Drank a lot of water and a soda: see notes on dinner
Dinner - Tonight we are hosting our small group from church for a build your own Taco Salad and Ice Cream Sunday social! My plan for today was to really watch what I ate throughout the day so that I would not stress tonight about what I am eating. So dinner plan tonight:
Taco salad w/ guacamole salsa and queso, and a SMALL serving of homemade vanilla ice cream!
Calories today (excluding the ice cream): 1285 Carbs: 63g

Your phone numbers are visible on your paperwork, and...
Your BUN/Creatinine ratio is high; too high for your age, gender and level of protein consumption.
Couple that with your RBC and Hemaglobin are just barely on the low-normal, and your total cholesterol is low (below 175 in any female is a red flag), you may have something going on that needs medical attention.
I'm not commenting to scare you! Low-normal RBC, low-normal HGB, a high BUN/Creatinine and a low total cholesterol are red flags, and your BUN number, while in reference range for that lab, is HIGH compared to the standard reference range usually used where 20 is the high normal. At 23 your BUN is above that.
Hooray for good check-ups. I have seen three Docs and a Chiro in the last six weeks(long time bowel and nerve issues unrelated to diet.)3 of the 4 know me and loved my weight loss. None had objections to my diet.

Anonymous - I appriciate your concern. Thank you for pointing out about the phone information...I have corrected that now. As far as your other concerns I spoke with my doctor at length over my entire report and I truly believe if he was concerned about any aspect he would let me know. I'm not sure what medical conditions you are refering to, but I have complete confidence in my doctor. :) He is well versed and experienced in nutrition and the latest in dietary advances. I plan on continuing this check on a regular basis so I will definitely keep you all updated! Thanks again!
Christin - I just wanted to congratulate you on your physical. If your doctor were concerned with your numbers he would have brought it up. Please don't let things get you down. We know you are way healthier now than you were 100 lbs overweight. You are a happy, healthy mom and no one can take that away from you.
GREAT JOB on your improved health, Christin! You'll notice your maintenance plan will reflect higher calories and fat which will serve you well as you keep on livin' la vida low-carb. Best wishes to you as you keep the weight off forever. :)
I would show my blood results to another doctor and get a second opinion. The idea that cholesterol has to be that low is only so the pharmaceutical companies can sell more statins.

So which is it? My cholesterol is 149! Why does that raise a flag? One side says you shouldn't be over 200, the other side says you shouldn't be under. What gives?
I agree with you Sue on the big pharma sales. The high used to be 250, now they've changed it to 200. That being said, why should she take have another doctor look at her results? I'm not seeing the connection.
Fair comment - as what's the other doctor going to do - just agree with the first one!!

How much cosmetic surgery have you hade to get rid of excess skin? I know I am 138 and am no where near a size 4 as you state that you are.
Sue - thank you for the article. I'm glad that I haven't used any kind of medication! :)
Sher - Actually I haven't had any surgery. My body carries weight very well. I'm 5'6" and I also do quite a bit of strength training so that might be why my body distributes it like it does. I'm so happy to be in the single digit clothe sizes! My jean size is a 4... But the way that manufacturers are today I have things in my closet anywhere from a 2 to an 8! The majority are 4's though so that's what I go by. :) my dress size is more like a 6 because of my upper torso ;)
